Recovery Fuel Smoothie

Recovery Fuel Smoothie

This one is designed specifically for the 30- to 60-minute window after exercise when your muscles are most hungry for nutrients. Kale and blueberries fight inflammation, coconut water restores what you sweat out, and your choice of protein source delivers 35+ grams to rebuild muscle tissue. Top with a sprinkle of chia seeds or fresh blueberries.

Nutrition (per serving, approx.) with Greek yogurt:

430 cal, 38 g pro, 45 g carb, 14 g fiber, 28 g sugars (0 g added sugars), 16 g fat (3 g sat fat), 25 mg cholesterol, 170 mg sodium

Nutrition (per serving, approx.) with protein powder:

350 cal, 35 g pro, 32 g carb, 13 g fiber, 22 g sugars (0 g added sugars), 12 g fat (2 g sat fat), 5 mg cholesterol, 200 mg sodium

Recipe

- 1 cup kale (fresh, stems removed)

- ½ cup coconut water (unsweetened)

- ½ orange, peeled

- ½ cup pineapple, frozen

- ½ cup blueberries, frozen

- 2 tablespoons chia seeds

- 1 serving Greek yogurt (30 g protein) OR 1 serving protein powder (unflavored or vanilla)

Tips

1. Drink this within 30–60 minutes after your workout for maximum muscle repair.

2. Add coconut water to the blender first, then the kale, so the greens break down completely.

3. Remove the white pith from the orange before blending to avoid bitterness.

4. Use frozen pineapple and blueberries to skip the ice.

5. Add protein powder after the liquid but before the frozen ingredients to prevent clumping.

6. Greek yogurt makes it creamier; protein powder makes it thinner. Both work well.

Nutrition Notes

Kale provides iron for oxygen delivery to working muscles. Pairing it with vitamin C-rich orange and pineapple enhances absorption.

Coconut water supplies about 250 mg of potassium per ½ cup to prevent muscle cramps.

Orange delivers about 50 mg of vitamin C to neutralize exercise-induced oxidative stress.

Pineapple contains bromelain, which may reduce muscle soreness and swelling after high-intensity exercise.

Blueberries contain anthocyanins that research shows accelerate muscle recovery when consumed before or after workouts.

Chia seeds provide ALA omega-3s and about 8 grams of fiber to aid digestion and satiety.

Greek yogurt offers 30 g of protein plus probiotics.

Protein powder offers concentrated amino acids; whey is absorbed rapidly, plant-based options work for vegan diets.
